Little Big Foot: Baby sleep sacks

Blankets are dangerous for Babies....use sleep sacks instead!

Q: Why a sleep sack for your baby?

SIDS associations recommend the use of sleep sacks instead of blankets. Blankets are dangerous in the crib: A child can easily become entangled in a blanket and suffocate. Our sleep sacks replace these blankets: Baby stays safe and warm, sleeps better, so you do too!

The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and various SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Associations recommend the following guidelines when putting your baby to bed:

*Remove any soft object from the crib: pillows, quilts, comforters, sheep skins, stuffed toys and other soft products.

*Place baby on her back on a firm, tight-fitting mattress in a crib that meets current safety standards.

*Your Baby's room should not be overheated : between 64 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

*Make sure your baby's head remains uncovered during sleep.

*Always use tight fitted sheets around the mattress, with no gaps between the mattress and the crib.

*Do not place baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow or other soft surface to sleep.

Q: How does a sleep sack work?

A: Introduced in Europe about twenty years ago, baby sleeping bags also referred as sleep sacks in the United Kingdom, have become a necessity for all European mothers. They are worn over pajamas and once zipped cannot slip off the child's body. Wide at the bottom they allow freedom of movement for the legs. Baby stays warm and safe all night, sleeps better, so you do too! Back to top

Q: How do I use the sleep sack?

A: Choose pajamas according to the season and temperature in the baby's room. Place your baby, in his sleeping bag, on his/her back. Back to top

Q: Can I use a bumper in the crib?

Remember: the CPSC motto is "no soft bedding in the crib". That logically includes crib bumpers... In the United Kingdom and Australia quilts and bumpers have been eliminated and sleep sacks are recommended over blankets.
As one of our customers said, "I prefer the conservative approach and take the risk that my baby will bump on the railings once in a while, rather than seeing her head caught between the bumper and the mattress... I know her legs will be protected in the sleep sack." Back to top

Q: Could the baby sink in the sleep sack?

A: No, given that the size is right for your baby, the armholes and neck are fitted so there is no risk of slipping into the bag. Remember this product is widely used in Europe. Every single parent who uses it, swears by it! Back to top

Q: Why are there no sleeves?

A: This reduces the risk of overheating, allowing the baby's heat to circulate andventilate. Back to top

Q: Why is the zipper sewn upside down?

The zipper would slide itself open as your baby starts sitting up. We also like to keep the pull away from the chin. Last, it makes it harder for little hands to play with and open the zipper!

Q:What is it made of ?

Our sleep sacks are REVERSIBLE, made in USA: You will find 100% cotton on both sides. Parents find cotton healthier than fleece or polar fleece because it allows the skin to breathe and ventilate.

The filling is 100% naturally flame resistant polyester. No fire retardant additives. The polyester filling allows the sleep sack to stay in shape and will not twist around your baby, as it can happen with fleece sacks. Back to top

Q: How do I know my baby is too hot or too cold?

To check Babies' body heat do not rely on touching their hands...

Because of their immature blood circulation, babies tend to have cold hands. Instead check their stomach or back. If you feel that your baby is too warm ( flushed and sweaty ) simply remove a layer of clothes. Try to keep the baby's room between 64 and 68F (18 to 20C). Under these conditions a bodysuit and light pajamas under the baby sleep sack will be just fine. Do not overheat your baby's nursery. Back to top

Q: When do I start using the toddler size?

A: We let you be the judge. Babies come in different sizes and weights. Some graduate to the Toddler size at 4 months, some at 7 months. There is no need for intermediate sizes our sizing follows the standard European sizing which has been used for decades. As a guideline here are some measurements:

Infant size( 0 to 6 months) Length: 25 " from shoulder- Width: Shoulders: 11"- Waist:11 "

Toddler size (6 to 24 months) Length: 39" from shoulder- Width: Shoulders: 13"- Waist: 13"

When you start using the baby sleep sack early and regularly it becomes part of the bedtime routine. The baby sleeping bag becomes a comforting object, especially when away from home, it is a familiar sight that they associate with sleep. The greatest thing about the sleep sack and toddlers, is that it prevents them from climbing out of the crib. Therefore, you can use the baby sleeping bag until your toddler is potty trained or ready to move to a junior bed.
