Little Big Foot has been manufacturing this line of baby sleeping bags since 1998. Our company was the first to introduce the concept in the United States. Baby sleeping bags are safer than blankets! Do you wake up at night to check if your baby is cold or if the blanket has traveled on her face? Promote crib safety. Stop using blankets and loose bedding in baby's crib: Try our sleeping bags! European SIDS Associations recommend using baby sleeping bags instead of blankets. In the USA, the Consumer Safety Commission (CSPC),the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), SIDS associations have been warning the public about the dangers of soft bedding in babies cribs. Blankets can be dangerous in the crib: A child can easily become entangled in a blanket and suffocate. Our sleeping bags replace these blankets: Baby stays safe and warm, sleeps better, so you do too! Introduced in Europe about thirty years ago, baby sleeping bags also referred as sleep sacks in the United Kingdom, have become a NECESSITY for all European mothers. They are worn over pajamas and once zipped cannot slip off the child's body. Wide at the bottom they allow freedom of movement for the legs. Read what parents think about them The story behind SIDS and Baby sleeping bags SIDS ( sudden infant death syndrome) has been studied in developed countries for over twenty years. SIDS is still one of the main causes of Post-neonatal death among babies aged between one and twelve months. Most factors are now well known, among them, some can be avoided through prevention. For the past ten years in Europe, advice on how to put Babies to bed have proven very effective in preventing SIDS. In France, the number of SIDS has been reduced from 1500 per year in 1990 to 350 per year. 75% diminution is significantly important. Today SIDS prevention campaigns are largely dominated by the way children are put to bed. However these recommendations are not yet integrated by the general public and not always followed by professional care takers. Too many people remain unconvinced and the rest may lack motivation in fighting to change habits that have taken place for so long. This is everybody's concern, from pediatricians, obstetricians, midwives, to day-cares and preschool professionals. Many factors contribute to SIDS, age being the first one, the younger the baby, the more vulnerable. Different pathologies also contribute to the risk, from viral to more severe conditions. The last one being environmental, such as positioning the child on the stomach, hypothermia, smoking and bedding. The "Back to sleep" campaign has been launched in the United States ten years ago( sponsored by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the SIDS Alliance, and the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs). Sleeping on the back is generally easily accepted by a newborn, if this habit has been taken from the beginning. The frontal position may cause the baby to crawl in the bed and get stuck in the bedding. This position may prevent air circulation and force the baby to rebreathe the air already expelled. The side position does not offer any safe alternative, especially because it is so unstable. Although some companies offer supports, these are not recommended because they too are considered as soft bedding. Encourage your baby to spend time on the stomach during the day. This will help the neck muscles to get stronger and tune the reflex to lift the head up. Do you need more information on SIDS? Check this page, we searched the web for you.
